Cystinosis Foundation Ireland

Name of Charity: Cystinosis Foundation Ireland
Type of work: Fundraise to support research into Cystinosis which is an ultra rare and incurable disease – www.cystinosis.ie
Current Projects: Medical research projects into Cystinosis in University College Dublin, University College Cork and Stanford University, California. Two projects we funded have recently been completed in Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and U.C.D.
What could a donation achieve for you: The research we are funding has been internationally peer reviewed and some of it is pioneering. We support all projects from fundraising events and donations. Some of our projects have received 50/50 funding from the Health Research Board, but that is the only funding we receive outside of the voluntary sector.
As we are an all volunteer charity and operate with no overheads, seeking sponsorship for specific expenses or the members absorbing costs personally, every cent you donate to us goes directly to research and will actually make a difference.
Why should your teams choose us? We are a focussed, Irish all volunteer charity. Everyone involved with our charity has a personal connection with this disease and is therefore wholly committed and passionate about our aims which are to support families affected by this disease. However our primary aim is to fund research to improve current treatment and ultimately to find a cure for Cystinosis.
We are also supporting jobs and promoting the scientific community in Ireland.
Cystinosis is an incurable, degenerative, devastating disease which mainly affects children and young adults due to the fact that it shortens life expectancy significantly. We want to make a difference to those in Ireland, and the rest of the world that have to live with this every day.
