Type of work: Making Cancer less Frightening by Enlightening for both men and women
Current Projects:
-National Community Information Service – Provided through our Mobile Information Units which are used by thousands of people nationwide every year.
-Public Awareness Campaigns – Such as our Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign , Get Men Talking men's health campaign, Cervical Cancer Campaign and Skin Cancer Campaign.
-Workplace Presentations – Our nurses visit hundreds of workplaces and community groups every year to offer advice to men and women as part of annual health awareness days or internal occupational health initiatives
-Schools Cancer Awareness Programme –Has been rolled out in over 700 secondary schools nationwide. It aims to educate students in 5th and 6th year as part of the Social Personal Health Education course, about each of the key cancers which could affect them or members of their families.
-National Comfort Fund – The Foundation has successfully operated a Comfort Fund since 2004. This became a National service in 2009 and the demands on the Fund are growing all the time. The fund is designed to give assistance to people who are struggling financially as a result of a Cancer diagnosis – extra financial pressures include transport, treatment costs, childcare costs etc
-Oncology waiting room refurbishment – This is an ongoing project which has seen facilities in hospitals such s St Vincent's, St James’s and Sligo General Hospital being refurbished.
-Support Services – Such as FREE New Beginnings Seminars for men and women who have completed treatment for cancer designed to help them adjust to the new ‘normal’ after treatment.
What a donation of €2,000 could achieve for you?: This could fund a Men’s Health Seminar (FREE to the public) as part of our Men’s Health Campaign in March 2011
What a donation of €5,000 could achieve for you?: This could go to our National Comfort Fund and help people who find themselves faced with extra financial pressure due to a Cancer diagnosis
