SVP
Name of the charity: SVP (Society of St Vincent de Paul)
Type of work & Current Projects: We operate in groups (called conferences) of 6 to 14 people in every parish in Ireland – with sometimes 3 or 4 conferences in the poorer parishes e.g Jobstown, Tallaght where our volunteers from each conference visit ( in pairs) 40 or 50 or 60 homes each week to bring financial support to poor families to enable them to pay rent, heating or provide food and clothing for their children and to support them in school programmes etc.
We also have conferences who operate hostels for the homeless, and visit hospitals and prisons –
Wherever there are people who are marginalised or in disadvantaged circumstances our volunteers will be found every week helping them keep hope alive.

What a donation of €2,000 could achieve for you?: enables us to provide food hampers for 40 families for a week or maybe help to pay rent or electricity/gas bills
What a donation of €5,000 could achieve for you?: enables us to provide food hampers for 30 families for a month or help to pay rent or electricity/gas bills an ongoing weekly necessity and especially after the hard winter where heating bills are starting to come in.
Why should our teams choose you?: Because we make no distinction in class creed or anything else of those we help – if we are shown a need, we respond in every area of Ireland particularly in the more marginalised and disadvantaged areas
And of course currently we are receiving calls for help from many in the ‘better’ areas who are caught in the current recession with big mortgages or simply being made redundant with financial commitments sustainable when working but not when jobless!
